Fully vaccinated Armenians can now travel to Sweden freely
Published on: 12 November 2021

Sweden implemented a temporary entry ban on the country on March 19th, 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although it was supposed to last 30 days, the ban has recently been extended to January 2022 for countries outside the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). This means that these countries can’t enter Sweden until then.

But the Swedish government has recently decided to make an exception for Armenia. As long as they’re fully vaccinated and can prove it with a valid certificate, Armenian people can travel and enter Sweden without even presenting a negative COVID-19 test. This way, they’re exempt from all travel and entry requirements.

This is because the European Commission has stipulated that vaccination certificates issued in Armenia are as valid as the EU Digital COVID-19 Certificate. More importantly, Armenian certificates are as easily verifiable as DCCs because they both use the same technical systems to do so.

The Swedish government’s decision will come into effect on November 15th, 2021.

Other countries and territories that are not affected by Sweden’s temporary entry ban are:

  • Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Denmark. All Nordic countries are exempt from the entry ban.
  • EEA countries, in addition to Switzerland, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and the Vatican, but as long as the traveler holds an EU COVID-19 Certificate or an equivalent vaccination certificate from an approved country, otherwise presenting a 72hrs negative COVID-19 test or a coronavirus recovery certificate.
  • Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (from October 19th, 2021) following recommendations of the European Commission and the EU Council. Nationals from these countries can enter Sweden as long as they can present a COVID-19 test with negative results.
  • The United States of America (from November 5th, 2021) due to the excellent business relations between the U.S. and Sweden. American citizens must present a vaccination certificate upon arrival, though.
  • Guernsey, Jersey, and the Isle of Mann (from November 5th, 2021) because they’re all British Crown dependencies and Sweden lifted entry bans for the United Kingdom on October 11th, 2021, due to “mutual trade” and investment opportunities.
  • Argentina, Colombia, Peru, and Namibia (from November 8th, 2021) due to the Council’s recommendation of lifting bans for these third countries. However, because they’re still third countries, they must present a negative COVID-19 test upon arrival to Sweden.
  • Any EU country as long as the traveler holds an EU COVID-19 Certificate or any third country as long as the traveler has a residence permit or residence right in Sweden or another EU country, or if the traveler has a documented family connection with someone residing in Sweden (Swedish citizens or foreign people with residence status).
